Principal's Message

I am humbled and excited to have been chosen to become the new principal of Norwood Street Elementary.  

My background is similar to many of our students in our communities. I am first generation Mexican-Chinese American.  My parents are immigrants from Mexico. They did not have the educational opportunities that I have had here in America.  Ever since I was a child, my mother would constantly quote John F. Kennedy, “It’s not what your country can do for you, it’s what you can do for your country.”   With that said, education was never to be taken for granted in my home.  I believe this is where my passion for civic duty and education were developed.  Need less to say, I have always loved going to school.  My career with Los Angeles Unified School District began in 1976 when I entered Kindergarten at Harbor City Elementary.   My teacher was Mrs. Folsom, she taught me to read, write, and how to add/subtract.   My kindergarten experience laid the foundation for my love of learning.  This is what I want every child that walks through the gates of Norwood Street Elementary, to feel the same excitement, hope and passion for education as I did back in 1976.  

I look forward to a collaborative, productive and joyous school year with staff, parents and community members.  Together we can ensure that our children, our natural greatest resource, receive a quality education that they deserve so that they too can fulfill their private hopes and dreams.
